‘The Deborah James Award For Leadership’ The Civica Awards – Hilton Manchester January 2018

It was with immense pride (and emotion) that Deborah’s brothers, Derek & Graham along with close friend Frankie O’Neill were invited by Civica to present an award dedicated to Deborah James at the annual awards ceremony held at the Hilton Deansgate Manchester.

Deborah was hugely influenced by her time at Civica and we knew at the time she was working with people who shared her ‘Can-do’ attitude and worked with the very highest levels of Knowledge and Integrity.

We were completely overwhelmed by the many people who took time out during the evening to come and talk to us about Debs and how she inspired, guided and supported them. We knew Debs was amazing but it is very clear that she means so much to so many people. Perhaps most memorable was a conversation with a Civica colleague who described Debs as ‘totally amazing’ and ‘such an inspiration’ she went on to say “I want to be like Debs”. Listening to this, words simply can not do justice to how this felt.

As her family we knew Debs as a Daughter, a Sister, an Auntie, a Granddaughter and of course as an amazing Mother. We always knew she was very special and to see this echoed by so many who knew her professionally was compelling and utterly heart warming.

We would like to congratulate everyone who was nominated and of course the winners. What a magnificent evening!

We would also like to say a special thank you to Wendy Merry, a huge influence professionally for Deborah and during her long illness a friend who showed continued love, friendship and support.

On behalf of Deborah’s Family and Friends, we would like to share our utmost and heartfelt appreciation and gratitude. Thank you to everyone at Civica for this amazing tribute.
